1 Week of coding

Why I Made "One Week of Coding"

Backstory

When I was in third grade, I was introduced to "Scratch" by my school. We took courses on the computer, and learned how to do basic things like moving an object and changing a costume. One day, we made a rocket that moved to the top of the screen. One of my friends figured out how to make the rocket increase speed as it went upwards, and I decided I wanted to learn to do things like that as well. In an attempt to exceed the rest of my class in coding, I asked teachers, talked to friends, watched youtube videos, and more. But nothing seemed to work. After a very long time of placing blocks and experimenting, I finally learned how to do things with variables  and sensing. But I was too late; by the time I had learned, the rest of my class had moved on from Scratch. My main goal was to exceed my class, but because it was so hard to learn, I finished too late; I was still on top of my class, but it didn't matter anymore. That is why I made 1 Week of Code.

I want people to be able to learn the fundamentals and more about coding easily and quickly, and to have fun in the process. While trying to learn Scratch, I found it difficult to find courses that weren't too long or too short. That is why I made One Week of Scratch; I feel 10 to 20 minute videos to watch each day of the week is just the right pace; fast enough it doesn't get in the way of other things, and short enough that it doesn't get boring, or take too long. Of course there are courses that are very advanced and even very basic. But I needed something that thought everything, including the fundamentals. that is why I made One Week of Scratch.

About Me

Hi! My name's Ethan. I made One Week of Code! I enjoy the same things many children my age enjoy; video games, talking with friends, etc.. I also love theater; especially singing and dancing! I enjoy many plays as well! I am also a huge fan of music in general! I mainly like specific genres, but I listen to it all the time, sing it all the time, and even come up with my own music a lot. I enjoy math a lot, and I (somewhat) enjoy reading! I love science, especially meteorology and life science! I started coding with Code.org when I was young, as well! During that time I played on the PBS Kids website a lot. I got into games, and after downloading some on my mom's old iPod (which she let me use), I began to move onto Scratch! Finally, I reached fourth grade, and began learning Scratch in my school! I got really into coding in general, especially game dev, as game dev combined two things I loved! I also have some of the best parents a kid could ever wish for. My mom is super nice and supportive, and my dad is very kind and fun! My mom can be really funny sometimes, and so can my dad. I Love my parents, and honestly don't know what I would do without them.
